The Alliance is excited to be participating in our first hackathon. We have set a challenge on trade facilitation and we look forward to the innovative proposals on how payments can be automated, how governments can increase the use of eSignatures and how supply chains can become more visible!

Hack-a-what?

The word hackathon consists of the words “hacking”, here meaning to make things more simple, and the word “marathon”, an event characterised by great length and concentrated effort. In other words, a hackathon is an innovation event that brings together people from different backgrounds to propose innovative and cross-disciplinary solutions that solve real world challenges.

The Valenciaport Hackathon & the Alliance

The Valenciaport Hackathon, 20-27 November 2020, is an opportunity to revolutionise the shipping industry, transforming and innovating to achieve a smart, green and resilient port of the future. The Hackathon will combine academic knowledge and talent from entrepreneurs and start-ups with the port-logistics community to enable sustainable development of intelligent ports.

The Alliance is sponsoring the International Trade Facilitation for Port Operations challenge in the hackathon to generate trade facilitation solutions that reduce costs and spark productivity, innovation and growth by addressing delays and unnecessary waiting times at borders. This is an opportunity to think big about what we can do to use trade facilitation to deliver inclusive and sustainable economic growth in developing and least developed countries.
