Alliance Event Brings Together Representatives From 10 Countries To Discuss Trade Efficiency Strategies
October 30, 2024,Buenos Aires, Argentina
Representatives from 10 Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) programs across Latin America and the Caribbean gathered for a regional workshop to discuss ways to optimise their Regional Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA). The four day event, hosted by the Alliance, convened customs officials from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay, focusing on assessing progress, sharing best practices, and exploring areas for further development.
The MRA, originally signed by eleven countries in São Paulo, Brazil, in 2022, is a pioneering initiative that fosters cooperation and harmonisation of trade processes within the region. Over the course of the workshop, participants concentrated on overcoming challenges and capitalising on the benefits of the MRA’s implementation. Together, they developed a unified approach to data exchange, established frequency protocols, and laid out a strategic communication plan aimed at raising awareness among key stakeholders about the MRA’s benefits.
In addition to reaffirming the stability and resilience of the MRA, participants also outlined plans to strengthen collaboration going forward, ensuring its continued success. Despite the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, the commitment to advancing the MRA underscores a shared vision to create a more cohesive and efficient trade environment across Latin America and the Caribbean.
Mutual Recognition Agreements like these play a crucial role in enhancing customs collaboration and promoting south-south trade, aligning closely with the objectives of the World Customs Organization’s SAFE Framework.
